a
note for indian students
EDUCATION IN
ARMENIA
Several Indian students are pursuing medical
studies in Armenia. The majority of them are
studying in Yerevan State Medical University
(established 1930) and about 50 are studying in
Haybusak University. Yerevan State Medical
University (YSMU) is a State/Government
University. It is reputed to be one of the premier
medical schools since former Soviet Union times.
Haybusak University is a private university.
In
accordance with the provisions of the Indian
Medical Council Act, Indian students willing to
study in Armenia should be aware of the
requirement of a Screening Test before being able
to register and practice in India.
Indian
students wishing to study medicine in Armenia are
advised to contact the Medical Council of India
before applying for admission. Indians should
check regarding quality of courses being offered
by the Yerevan State Medical University and other
private Universities in Armenia.
EDUCATION IN
GEORGIA
About 100 Indian students are
studying medicine in Georgia at Tbilisi State
Medical University. Some Indian students are
studying nursing in GBT College, Tbilisi also.
It is advised that before taking
admission in any of the institutions, the status
of the recognition of the Diplomas/Degrees awarded
by those institutions, especially the private
ones, may be confirmed from respective Indian
statutory bodies like Indian Medical Council,
Indian Nursing Council, etc.
All students who wish to register
in India in medicine need to take the Eligibility
Certificate from the Medical Council of India
before admission and have to pass MCI examination
before registration. Similarly, they are also
advised to consult Indian Nursing Council on the
status of degrees/diplomas being awarded by the
institutions in question.
It should also be ascertained by
students before they leave India whether the
private institutions offering courses are licensed
to do so by the Georgian authorities.
CAUTIONARY
It may be noted that job promise in third country,
if given by any college, may not come true as the
same is subject to (a) recognition of
degree/diploma held by the student in that
particular country, and (b) grant of visa by that
country, in addition to other conditions, imposed
by that country, which includes knowledge of the
language of that country.
It has been informed especially by GBT College,
Tbilisi, Georgia, which imparts Diploma in Nursing
that the College has no control on the visa
matters, especially for EU countries and USA, etc.
The College further informed that it only assists
and brings the potential employers to their
qualified graduates. It is for the Graduate
to convince the employer about his/her ability.
The College authorities also stated that the US
Permanent Visa may take four to five years after
filling the Visa applications. Similarly,
many countries do not have their Representative
Missions in Georgia, hence for their visa, one has
to approach its Mission in a third country.
